Our Approach

From Grants to Community Equity

Bhutan is at a critical development juncture. As the country navigates post-pandemic recovery, democratic transition, and increasing climate pressure, communities need more than short-term project support.

LEAD+ wanted to support communities in building lasting economic agency and community ownership, not simply delivering services to them. The Grassroot Venture Facility was born from this conviction.

The facility responds to the needs of informal grassroots ventures, groups with clear social value and entrepreneurial potential, but which face persistent barriers to growth: limited access to financing, weak organizational capacity, and poor linkages to markets.

By blending micro-impact investment with incubation and technical assistance, and by ensuring that rural women's groups and youth collectives hold equal or majority ownership, the facility creates sustainable, community-driven enterprises.
